Where Dogs Help Change Lives

OUR MISSION

Help at-risk youth, parolees, incarcerated persons, individuals with barriers to employment or disabilities grow personally, recover from trauma, and learn job skills through the care and training of K9s.

Volunteer Opportunities

Rescue Dogs

Volunteers learn how to assess if an unwanted dog has the potential to become a detection K9.

Some dogs that are too high energy for their owner, or are destructive in the home, just need a job.

Volunteers go to shelters and into the community to assess dogs that owners can no longer keep.

Some dogs come from Labrador Retriever rescue groups.

Volunteers learn to train dogs in the skills necessary for a successful career as a working K9.

Puppy Raising

Behind every successful detection K9 are many hours of loving care spent preparing the dog for service. It all starts with learning that playing with people and toys is fun!

Volunteers come to the training center to spend time grooming and playing with the puppies or going on field trips to hardware stores, group homes or public events.

Some become foster parents and raise a puppy in their home for 8-12 months.

Our goal for 2026 is to start puppy raising programs in prisons and group homes.

K9 Health

Volunteers learn how to keep K9s healthy through sanitation and de-worming practices as well as hands-on grooming.

The pet grooming and boarding industry in California employs approximately 38,000 people and is projected to reach $2.0 billion in 2026.

We happily provide references for our volunteers that choose to apply for jobs in this growing industry or others.
